White Fillings—the Healthy Choice

Although amalgam fillings have been used for decades, this “metal” or “silver” alloy contains around 50% mercury—one of the most toxic elements found on the periodic table. At our Brisbane clinic, we use BPA-free composite or CEREC hybrid ceramic when fillings are required. We can also safely remove your old amalgam fillings and replace them with healthier and safer white fillings.

Safe Amalgam Filling Removal

We provide maximum safety in the removal of mercury fillings, based on recommendations of the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM), and the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT).

Patients get their amalgam fillings removed for many reasons. Many are concerned with the health effects of the mercury in these fillings and galvanism, while others have new decay around or under the amalgam fillings, and some simply don’t like the look of the silver. These silver fillings also tend to expand and contract differently than your tooth structure based on temperature changes, thus they tend to crack or split the surrounding tooth.

At Excellence in Dentistry, we will inspect and remove mercury fillings safely to ensure your overall health and wellbeing. We provide the best solution for you, using all the necessary precautions to remove your old fillings, while replacing them with BPA-free fillings that will ultimately benefit your oral health.

BPA-Free Composite Fillings

Perhaps, the most common misunderstanding about composite fillings is that they are all the same. Actually, there are many component chemicals that can be used to make composites, including BPA, a known endocrine disruptor that may contribute to physical and neurological problems during early developmental stages in a person’s life. Research has also shown that it interferes with proper thyroid function and possibly be carcinogenic. While ALL amalgam fillings contain mercury, NOT all composites contain BPA.

At Excellence in Dentistry, we only use BPA-free composite material.
