Your teeth and dating

Yes, the two are related in a big way!

Dentistry is constantly being reviewed and analysed and researched. It is one of the things that allow dentists to stay current and to keep improving ways to help you with your oral health. Oral health is important not just for your overall health and wellbeing but surveys performed in the last six months show teeth play important roles in other aspects of your life, such as dating.

In a survey performed in December 2012 it was revealed that a healthy, straight white smile was considered (by some employers) to be more important than the suit you wore. In fact (in some jobs such as receptionist or any kind of public relations job) healthy, white looking teeth could be the difference between landing the job and being turned away.

Now in a survey performed at the beginning of March it seems single people are placing a lot of importance on teeth. A large part of dating is (obviously) physical attraction. So when a dating agency did a survey of singles (over 21) it found some pretty astonishing results:

  • 55% of men judged teeth as the most important physical quality
  • 71% of women saw teeth as the top facial feature

Seventy-one percent! That’s massive. Here’s a list of what closely followed teeth:

  1. Grammar
  2. Hair
  3. Clothes

So according to these single adults, teeth, grammar, hair and clothes are some of the most important features when they are looking for a partner.

Biological scientists have commented on these results saying that it’s very Darwinian. Why? Because white, straight teeth are a good indication of how healthy a person is; their diet, whether they smoke or drink a lot can all be told by the state of the teeth.

At Excellence in Dentistry we offer a range of cosmetic treatments to help rejuvenate your smile…

For all the brushing and flossing you do, it still might not be enough to keep your teeth from staining. Additionally, if you drink a lot of coffee, alcohol or smoke than these will also stain your teeth. But at Excellence in
Dentistry we have the answer…

Dental check-ups…

We recommend that every six months you visit your dentist for a regular dental check-up; this usually includes a cleaning and polishing of your teeth as well checking the overall health of your teeth.

We also offer tooth whitening…

Tooth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental procedure that can whiten your teeth up to five shades. However, it is always best to go see your dentist about tooth whitening. Studies have shown that the use (or misuse) of over the counter tooth whitening kits can actually be detrimental to your health. While this does not include every over-the-counter take-home kit, it is advisable to talk to your dentist about what are the best options are for you.

At Excellence in Dentistry we have two tooth whitening options:

1. In-office whitening

By visit us at our conveniently located dental practice in Brisbane we can whiten your teeth in around an hour. The in-office whitening can lighten your teeth up to five shades!

2. Home whitening

When you come in for your appointment we make custom made bleaching trays. The at-home whitening system requires you to wear the bleaching tray for 45 minutes for around a week.
