Despite the many naysayers, it is actually beneficial for your health to remove amalgam fillings
There are those in the dental community who still believe that the risks associated with amalgam fillings are negligible. While there is still debate as to the effects of amalgam fillings, at Excellence in dentistry we prefer to use an alternative method that is safe, effective and virtually invisible!
Did you know that the amount of mercury necessary to give you mercury poisoning is so small it can’t be picked up by the average blood test? That having amalgam fillings means you could be slowly exposing yourself to mercury vapour? And that due to the composition of amalgam fillings they can expand and contract depending on the temperature thus severely damaging your tooth: people’s teeth have been known to crack or split because of amalgam fillings.
Basically, amalgam fillings can be harmful; and is why at Excellence in Dentistry in Brisbane all of our treatments are mercury free.

Direct Composite Bondings…
This is a procedure that applies a mouldable substance (like putty): reasons for having direct composite bondings are:
- Repair cracked or chipped teeth
- Direct filling
- Replacement for amalgam fillings
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Reshaping unsightly teeth
The aesthetic benefit of direct composite bondings is that it is tooth-coloured so one will even know you’ve got a filling. Because of the nature of the filling it also requires less tooth structure is removed to place the direct composite bondings.
However, due to the nature of the procedure it normally takes longer than the tradition amalgam filling. The reason for this is direct composite bondings require the tooth to be kept clean and dry while the cavity is being filled.
