Multiple tooth replacement
We can correct multiple tooth loss with dental implants
At Excellence in Dentistry Brisbane we are passionate about treating tooth loss at the source of the concern. If you are missing a number of teeth our Wickham Terrace dentists can help identify the cause of the problem as restore the function and appearance of your missing teeth.
Don’t ignore multiple tooth loss
As with any untreated health concern—and multiple tooth loss is a health concern—it can create further oral health issues if it is left untreated. Most notably, it can cause gum disease and further tooth loss.
When you lose a tooth, or multiple teeth, the jawbone that holds the tooth root will often start to dissolve. Once the jawbone has begun to deteriorate, it will not grow back. If you wait too long between loosing multiple teeth and receiving implant dentistry you may require a bone graft for the procedure to be successful.
Replacing a number of missing teeth
Unlike other forms of tooth restorations, dental implants are a whole-tooth replacement in that they replace the tooth root and then a crown or bridge will replace the crown of a tooth. In replacing the entire tooth, including the tooth’s root, you can recapture your entire dental health.
Receiving multiple dental implants
When there are a number of teeth missing, our team will often place a number of dental implants that will act as an anchor for a dental bridge or a number of dental crowns. In placing a number of anchors, your jawbone will still receive stimulation without having to place a dental implant in the place of every tooth root.
Receiving a number of dental implants will involve surgically placing a biocompatible titanium screw into your jawbone. Once your jawbone has healed around the implant a number of prosthetic teeth or a dental bridge will be placed. It can take up to six months for your jaw to heal around the dental implants.
Caring for your implant
There are a number of steps you should take in order to care for your dental implants and implant supported crowns or bridges. Some steps you should take involve:
- Brushing your teeth twice daily
Regardless of how big or small or how many implants you have, they must be treated just as you would treat your genuine teeth. We advise our patient to brush and floss their dental implants at least twice a day.
- Visit our dental practice twice a year
As your normal dental schedule should be, those with dental implants should also visit a dentist every six months. Your dental implants will need professional cleaning and will also need to be checked for proper fit, placement and repair if necessary.
Dental implants can last a lifetime if they are taken care of properly. Dental implants can re-complete your smile, as well as proving full function and aesthetics to the face – meaning you can eat, drink, talk and laugh with confidence again.
