How Frequently Do You Think About The Health Of Your Jaw?

severe jaw painIt’s something we often take for granted and rarely think about, but the health of your jaw is important…

How often do you think about your jaw? Often when people’s teeth hurt, they associate the problem with their teeth. But what if the problem is due to a misaligned bite? What if the misaligned bite is caused by teeth problems? Did you know that when you sleep temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) will result in tooth grinding?

At Excellence in Dentistry We Can Help

When tooth grinding occurs it can lead to problems such as sensitive teeth and even tooth decay. While you sleep your misaligned jaw will cause your teeth to grind and this means a reduction in tooth enamel; reduction in tooth enamel means a weaker tooth, and there are a host of problems that can result from that.

Some of the problems that can arise from poor oral health are:

  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular disease

Misaligned Jaw

Sometimes a misaligned jaw is a result of tooth loss. When you lose a tooth the other teeth around it twist in an attempt to cover the gap. A loss of tooth can also affect the bone density of your jaw as well as result in other teeth falling out or becoming infected.

TMD at Excellence in Dentistry

We are here to help you. If you experience neck or shoulder pain, sore or sensitive teeth, facial pain or any other related pain you may unfortunately have temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD).

There is no longer any need to suffer from this terrible illness. TMD is a common (albeit serious) condition that our dentists at Excellency in Dentistry can help you deal with. TMD is a result of the joint which connects the upper and lower jaw becomes misaligned. As a consequence of TMD you suffer a range of symptoms such as:

  • Popping of the jaw, as well as clicking and grinding
  • Difficulty opening and closing your mouth
  • Neck aches, headaches, migraines
  • Pain around the face and jaw; even locking.

But there are treatments available. And at Excellence in Dentistry we are all about looking after our patients. In our comfortable, modern and relaxed dental practice we endeavour to make your experience with us a comfortable and easy experience.

Also our skilled and friendly dentists are constantly learning and attending seminars in order to learn and obtain the best ways to treat our patients.

TMD

What makes TMD hard to diagnose is that there are literally dozens of potential symptoms that on their own would not necessarily point to TMD. However, when put together by a skilled dentist a pattern may be ascertained. This array of symptoms will in fact differ in number and intensity depending on the individual.

But do not worry! At Excellence in Dentistry we have the treatment to help you cope with and relieve the effects of TMD.
