How often should I have a check-up at the dentist?

We recommend that you visit the dentist at least once every 6 months. Regular visits allow your dentist to find early signs of disease and problems can be treated before they become serious. Depending on the condition of your teeth and any pre-existing conditions you may have, this may need to be reviewed.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms our dental professionals advise you to book an appointment as soon as possible. We offer comprehensive care for those who are suffering from TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder).

What is TMD?

TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder) is a common but serious condition in which the joint that connects the upper and lower jaws becomes misaligned. TMD can cause a lot of problems, ranging from tooth grinding and jaw problems, through to migraine headaches. TMD can be caused by a number of different factors and can have a variety of symptoms.

What are symptoms of TMD?

Those who are suffering TMD may present a wide range of symptoms, from mild to serious, including:

  • Clicking, grinding and popping of the jaw
  • Difficulty moving the jaw, including opening and closing the mouth
  • Migraines, headaches and neck aches
  • Locking or soreness or other pain around the face and jaw

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms please contact our dental professionals as soon as possible in order to begin alleviating your pain.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial replacement for a tooth’s root. Dental implants can anchor a crown, denture or bridge restoration in order to restore dental function to those who have experienced single, multiple or full arch tooth loss. The implant itself is a titanium post-like screw that is placed into your jawbone to provide stimulation for the jawbone and a solid anchor for a restoration.

What are the advantages of the dental implant treatment?

Dental implants have a number of advantages when it comes to replacing a missing tooth as they offer:

  • Aesthetic advantages: once fitted with a crown, bridge or fixed denture a dental implant will look and feel like your natural tooth did.
  • Functional advantages: your implant restoration will act just like a real tooth, enabling you to chew, smile and speak as you did before you experienced tooth loss.
  • Health advantages: a dental implant will also maintain your bone structure and support your facial tissues.
  • Stability: an implant restoration can provide fixed support compared to other removable devices that could potentially slip out of place when eating, talking or smiling.
  • Reliability: the success rate of implant dentistry is very high and dental implants are widely considered to be an innovative and effective option for tooth loss correction.
  • Increased choice: dental implants can give you the dental mobility to enjoy your favourite foods that you may not have otherwise been able to eat with a removable device.

Why should I correct tooth loss?

It is important to correct single, multiple or full arch tooth loss for a number of different reasons. Some important factors to consider when asking why it is important to correct tooth loss include:

  • After tooth loss the surrounding teeth can drift out of place to accommodate for the new gap.
  • Without the stimulation of your teeth your jawbone can begin to dissolve (the jawbone cannot grow back). This can affect the strength of the bone and even the structure of your face.
  • If you are suffering tooth loss your dental ability may become impinged. This can mean that you may experience difficulty eating, speaking and chewing.

What orthodontic options are there for adults?

Excellence in Dentistry provides a number of orthodontic options for adults who wish to straighten their smile discreetly. Some of our fast and discreet adult orthodontic options include:

What is the Invisible braces treatment?

Invisible braces target the ‘social six’ which is the visible six teeth at the front of your smile. Invisible braces use six tiny braces that are glued to the inside of your teeth, making them absolutely invisible. They also use one or two orthodontic wires to move and align teeth. The treatment time for invisible braces is typically only 4 to 6 months.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an advanced orthodontic appliance that uses a series of clear aligners to gently and comfortably move crooked or misaligned teeth into place. As the aligners are clear they are virtually invisible, so no one will know you are straightening your teeth. The Invisalign treatment can take anywhere between 12 – 24 months to achieve the desired outcome, depending on your teeth placement and your compliance.

What is Snap On Smile?

Snap-On Smile is an affordable, non-invasive and completely reversible dental appliance that can easily and painlessly give you a beautiful smile. The Snap On Smile device is made from a hi-tech dental resin which is very thin yet extremely strong. The two Snap On Smile arches slide over your teeth and lock into place, giving you a removable smile that you can eat, speak and smile with.
